Bloodstone gems could be called Chalcedony, Jasper and even Moss Agate, and you would be correct each time. It is a Moss Agate with its green material packed so closely that it presents an even background for the startlingly red spots of iron deposits that look much like blood.
Called Heliotrope in ancient times, this gemstone has been given as a protective jewelry in the form of amulet and talisman since before recorded history.

In almost all birthstones traditions the March birthstone is the Bloodstone.
