Jewelry Birthstones Wizard

The quiet green mineral zoisite was discovered in Tanzania in 1967. It was soon found that heat treatment cased a deep pleochroic color in the stone. Changing from dark blue through green yellow to a red purple hue these beautiful gemstones were named Tanzanite after the only country where they are mined.
The American Gem Trade Association announced, in 2002, that Tanzanite had become the newest addition to the modern list of December birthstones comprised of Turquoise and Zircon.
Although it is a relatively soft gem (Tanzanite is a 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale) the inherent fire and the spectral play of color have made this desirable and rare jewel much sought after.
